When I was a kid, I just KNEW adult life was for me. I had this idea of adulthood that consisted of endless supplies of cash, partying or fine dining whenever I wanted to, vacations whenever I feel like it, high heels in everyday situations, business attire and a happy hour at the end of the day with my closest girlies x corporate baddies.
Now, in short, I’ve done exactly that. Yet, experience taught me so much about being a boss babe, especially that heels everyday is laughable. There was a point in life where I hungered to hear the sound of my heels, clicking on the solid ground of my office building (You know the exact sound I am talking about), fashionable work outfits like I saw in the movies, coffee in my perfectly manicured hand, laptop in my aesthetically pleasing, yet functional, bag and sunglasses to match.
Welcome to the life I envisioned, come to life.I have become the embodiment of my childhood visions and I will say I am grateful to be there and be her. While I am grateful, it’s exactly what I’d hoped it would be. All I knew was hard work, and goal setting, working hard towards this definition of success:
Money + Power = Success

I thought of corporate as a fashion show, a battle of intellect, creativity, and networking. Working hours to climb the ladder, corporate politics as a black women, relationships, while simultaneously trying to stay attune with life and my surroundings, every so often I find myself craving something different, a change.

When the pandemic started in 2020, the heels were put away and the business attire has been retired for a comfy cozy aesthetic, casual chic if you will, and HONEY, I AM HERE FOR IT! I’ve been referring to “her” (My current era) as my “Senora era,” what some have been calling a “soft life.” Defining exactly what I am, and where I want to be.
I now hunger for autonomy. I want control over my time, how I spend it and with whom I choose to spend it. I have realized that has made me unlikeable to a degree but those who get it, get it, and thats my community. I am vibes girl and I will not apologize. Go forth and live your best leisurely life….

Need a significant change in YOUR professional or personal path?
Pivoting typically refers to making a significant change in your path.Pivoting can be done professionally and personally, which we now call a “GLOW UP!” Make no mistake, pivoting is rarely easy, but is ALWAYS worth it, even if just for the lessons.Pivoting is an inside/out job, if done correctly.
My suggestion is to start off by focusing on your why. Your why will be your motivation to keep going. This is a mindset shift tool to help align you with your deepest desires and open space to receive the change. How do you determine your why?
A professional pivot is done by transitioning into a new role in your current company or finding a new job, and/or changing functions and industries all together. While the specifics of a career pivot can vary depending on your personal circumstances, there are several key steps you can take to facilitate a successful career transition.
What to do:
- Do a self-assessment [Evaluate your skills, strengths, interests, & values]
- Create a Routine
- Track you time
- Research and explore new opportunities
- Learn about the skills and qualifications required for those positions, the current trends and challenges in the field, and the potential growth opportunities.
- Skill development [online courses, workshops, certifications, or even volunteering or freelancing in relevant projects.]
- Networking [Attend industry events, join relevant professional associations, and connect with individuals who are already working in the field you want to pivot into]
- Gain practical experience
- Tailor your resume and cover letter
- Be open to new and different opportunities
- Seek Guidance and mentorship from those your are inspired by

Relocation? Maybe?!
Did you know that specific cities are better for certain industries?! Being in the right place, at the right time, and always being prepared is literally the goal, “Luck, meeting preparation!”
In choosing a new city to potentially move to, you to consider whether or not it’s a good move for your career and will you be able to continue to grow and thrive, not only a person, but also as a professional and as a brand, wherever you end up. Each city has industries that are BOOMING 💥 and not all cities are built alike. This is the perfect time to pivot and realign with creating a new life. Sometimes life throws you a curve ball, and it may be the exact thing you needed to pursue something new and fulfilling . This is what I have seen about each of the cities that are ranked the best cities for black professionals.
Things to consider before your relocate
Relocation is not for everyone, and that is ok. There are opportunities all around you, including right where you are!
“Ask and it will be given. Seek and you shall find. Knock and the door will be open. But you have to ask.”
Matthew 7:7
Pivoting can be scary. But on the flip side, it can be thrilling and exciting. Creating the life of your dreams, vs accepting what is. This process can alter your self-concept quite a bit. It can call into question who you are and have always known yourself to be. It can make you question whether you ever wanted any of this in the first place. That can be very unsettling, even for those who know the exact path they want to be on. Ive heard this described, on ore than one occasion as being “Lost.” And while that may be so, there are benefits to being “Lost.”
